Bob and Carol Young of Hamilton and their family have made an exceptional contribution to the athletic success of Badin and its predecessor schools. They are very worthy recipients of the Legacy Family Award for the 2014 year.Bob graduated from Hamilton Catholic High in 1954. At HCHS, Bob played football and basketball and was captain and most valuable player in basketball his senior year. He attended Xavier University on a football scholarship, where he earned undergraduate and master’s degrees. He was captain of the Xavier football team, honorable mention All-American and was inducted into the Xavier University Legion of Honor.Bob is a member of the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Badin-Hamilton Catholic-Notre Dame Hall of Fame in 1995.Carol is a 1955 graduate of St. Ursula Academy. She was a cheerleader at Purcell High School, and has taught dance for 60 years, overseeing her own studio for 55 years. She has had a positive influence on hundreds of young men and women during those six decades.Bob and Carol have six children, all of whom attended Badin High School, 15 grandchildren – eight of whom attended Badin – and four great-grandchildren.Besides athletics, Bob and Carol’s children participated in many extracurricular activities. They credit Badin High School for its assist in rearing and molding these men and women into the fine individuals they are today.Eric ’78 – Eric played football and basketball. He was captain of the football team his senior year. He attended Defiance College. Eric and his wife, Beth, live in Hamilton and are the parents of one child.Greg ’79 – Greg played football and was a member of the swimming and diving teams. He attended the University of Florida. Greg resides in suburban Philadelphia.Melanie ’81 – Melanie was a cheerleader and was inducted into the National Honor Society. She attended UC’s Raymond Walters College. Melanie and her husband, Chuck McKinney ’78, live in Hamilton and are the parents of three children.Sharon ’83 – Sharon was a cheerleader and a member of the gymnastics and diving teams. She attended Miami University. Sharon and her husband, Mike Hundley ’83, live in Hamilton and are the parents of four children.Paula ’85 – Paula was a cheerleader. She pursued a professional dance career and performed at King’s Island, on various cruise ships, in Hollywood, Las Vegas and New York City. Paula lives in Hamilton and is the mother of four children.Paul ’85 – Paul played football and basketball and was captain of both the football and basketball teams his senior year. He was named most valuable player of the football team as a senior. Paul attended the University of Indianapolis and was captain of the football team there his senior year. Paul was inducted into this Hall of Fame in 2010. He and his wife, the former Patti Ritzi ’79, live in Hamilton and are the parents of three children.Bob and Carol have continued to be supporters of Badin High School, contributing to the Badin Scholarship Fund, the building of the Pfirman Family Athletic Center, and the Badin Celebration auction. They have been particularly supportive of the Badin baseball program, having significantly contributed to the purchase of new grounds-keeping equipment, a new scoreboard and new bleachers.Bob and Carol Young and their family help keep Badin a vibrant place, both on the athletic fields and as a school that continues to make a difference in the lives of hundreds each year.
