The family of Terry and Ann Slovisky McGuff have had a major impact on Catholic education in Hamilton for six decades.Terry, a native of Middletown and a graduate of Fenwick High School – where he played on the school’s first football and basketball teams -- was the first assistant coach hired into the Hamilton Catholic football and basketball programs by head coach Terry Malone in 1958.Ann, a native of Detroit, is a 1957 graduate of Notre Dame High whose family was also very active at Hamilton Catholic and Badin High. She and Terry were married at Sacred Heart Church in 1960.Terry remained at Hamilton Catholic for seven years, becoming the head basketball and head baseball coach along the way. He was an officer in the Catham Club, serving as president in 1978-79, and was also instrumental – along with Jack Loeffler and Bob Ernst – in starting the Athletic Hall of Fame.After retiring from a lengthy career at General Electric, Terry has stayed busy as a substitute teacher at Badin for the past 18 years. In fact, the Badin High Class of 2011, during Civics Day in Hamilton, recognized him by declaring Nov. 20, 2010, as “Terry McGuff Day” in the city of Hamilton. He was inducted into the Badin Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007. Terry and Ann McGuff are the parents of five children, all Badin grads, and have 13 grandchildren. They were all very active at Badin High.Mike ’79 – Mike was a three-sport athlete at Badin (football, basketball and baseball), including starting at safety, leading the team in interceptions, and returning punts on the state runner-up football Rams of 1978. A graduate of Denison University, Mike played football for two years and baseball for four years there, leading the team in hitting as a senior and serving as team captain. He served as a varsity baseball assistant coach at Badin from 1993-2001, including on a state title team in 1996. Mike and his wife, the former Jodee Mistler, are the parents of two sons, Patrick and Ryan. Mike is currently a Senior Claims Specialist for JWF Specialty, headquartered in Indianapolis.Kathy ’81 – Kathy ran track at Badin and was also a member of the school’s first girls basketball team. The sprint relay team of which she was a member won numerous meet titles. Kathy resides in Liberty Township and is the mother of three sons – Nolan, Scott and Eric. She is a corporate chef and client concierge for Custom Distributors.Colleen ’82 – Colleen was very active at Badin, including student government and yearbook, while holding down a part-time job that turned into a 35-year career at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. She is currently the scheduling coordinator for the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s.Maureen ’83 – Maureen was a cheerleader for four years at Badin and was a member of National Honor Society, among numerous other activities. She graduated from the Mercy Hospital radiology technician program and is current the director of outpatient imaging at Vero Radiology in Vero Beach, Fla. She is the mother of two children, Katherine and Max.Kevin ’88 – Kevin had an outstanding basketball career at Badin, including serving as the co-captain of the 1988 undefeated Division III state championship Rams. Kevin was the leading scorer on that team and was named Most Valuable Player. He still holds the record for most points in a single season for Badin. He went on to continue his basketball career at St. Joseph’s (Ind.) College, where he was captain of the team his senior year. He was inducted into the Badin Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. After head women’s basketball coaching stints at Xavier University and the University of Washington, Kevin recently completed his fifth season as the head women’s coach at the Ohio State University. He and his wife, the former Letitia Bowen, reside in Columbus with their six children – Kilyn, Keiryn, Lukas, Lake, Lily and Leks.The McGuffs have been significant supporters of Badin High throughout Badin’s existence, including the original fund drive to open the school.“The success this family has had,” they wrote, “can be traced back to the Moral, Spiritual and Educational Foundation they received while at Badin High School.”
