Jim Zettler '92

Hall of Fame
Induction Year: 2014

Jim Zettler has been an outstanding golfer for some three decades, and shows no signs of slowing down. His prowess on the golf course has vaulted him into the Hall of Fame.

He started playing at the age of eight and won his first junior tournament the next year. At age 12, his dad was dropping him off at Potter Park each morning so that he could work on his game … and Jim won some 40 junior tournaments along the way. During the Optimist Junior World tournament in San Diego in 1990, Jim knocked Tiger Woods out of the event in the third round!

At Badin High, Jim was named most valuable golfer for four straight years. He was first team all-Ohio as a junior and a senior, and the Division II Greater Cincinnati player of the year as a senior by the Cincinnati Post.

Jim went to Xavier University on a combined athletic and academic scholarship, and was again a four-time MVP, team captain as a senior, and named an Academic All-American as both a junior and a senior. He won two tournaments during his years at Xavier, one at Georgetown University and the other the Dr. Pepper Intercollegiate in Texas.

After college, Jim went on to play for 2.5 years on various mini-tours and made the cut in more than 70 percent of his events. That continued a performance on the links that had led the local media to dub him “Mr. Consistency.”

Jim is a graduate of the dental school at the University of Kentucky and now practices orthodontics with his father, also Dr. Jim Zettler, with offices in Hamilton and Beckett Ridge.

Jim and his wife, Edwina, live in Fairfield and are the parents of four “busy” children … but Jim still finds time to get in some golf. He has won the Hamilton City Championship three times, the Twin Run club championship six times and the Potter Park club championship twice.

“I am looking forward to having my kids play in the same tournaments I grew up playing and eventually competing against them,” he wrote. “I am lucky to have played a sport that has developed friendships that will last a lifetime.”
