Carol Imfeld Hartman '48

The memorable career of Carol Imfeld Hartman '48 is putting her into a third Hall of Fame, following previous induction into the Butler County HOF (1994) and the Talawanda HOF (2004).

Carol started playing softball, basketball and tennis competitively at the age of 13, and proved that -athletics can be a lifelong venture. She lettered in three sports (tennis, basketball and volleyball) for all four years at the University of Cincinnati.

Her basketball career spanned 18 years, including six championships in the Butler County Women's League; an AAU state championship in 1948; and a number of years of semi-pro basketball with the Cincinnati Pepsi Cola Girls.

She was an active tennis player for 55 years and a participant in the Greater Hamilton City Tournament for six decades. A former city champion, she played in 25 city finals, winning 15 championships in singles and doubles in six different age categories. She is the only player to win a championship in every age bracket, from Junior City (18 and under) to Masters (55 and over). She was also won numerous championships in singles, doubles and mixed doubles at the Elks Country Club.

Carol subsequently coached at Oxford Stewart and Talawanda high schools, coaching three varsity sports (volleyball, basketball and softball) and losing only one game total over a five-year period. Her volleyball teams won several post-season Butler County Championship tournaments in the mid-1950s.

Carol was named Journal-News "Athlete of the Year" in 1948 and "Coach of the Year" in 1955. In tennis, she earned the Leeds Bronson Memorial Award and the Bill Edmunds Sportsmanship Award. She served for 30 years on the Hamilton Tennis Association board, organized and officiated CYO volleyball leagues for nearly two decades, and was a longtime diving judge and official in the Butler County Swim League.

Carol and her husband, Jim, live in Fairfield Township.
