Trish Baden ’06 is an outgoing, fun loving, and free-spirited soul! She has a Bachelor of Art from Miami University, having studied English Literature and Interactive Media. In 2010, she was hit suddenly with Lyme disease, resulting in hospital stays and much treatment, but that hasn’t held her back from living a positive, happy life!
She is currently an entrepreneur living in Hollywood, CA, creating candles for her online shop Flores Lane. Her candles were included in the gift bags given at the 2018 Grammys!

What are you passionate about?
Apparently candles, hahaha!!! But truly, I get up everyday leading a positive and purpose driven life so I guess you can say I'm passionate about living.

Who inspires you and why?
My mom! She's incredibly driven but also has so much fun in the process of killing it, its admirable.
What led you to your career/business?
It was an accident, LOL!! I moved to LA without any friends, so I spent a lot of time indoors, burning candles. I took a candle class hoping to meet people and that didn't work out so I made candles for family/friends.... thus birthing a monster!
What is your favorite quote?
It varies, I use quotes as mantras so, at the moment, "be scared and do it anyway."
Where have you traveled in the world?
MAN! I lived in London, England for a bit during college and absolutely loved every moment of the city. One of the best spots to travel in London, if you're looking for something different or off-beat, is Camden Town (home of Amy Whinehouse, Coldplay, so many more). The street markets, different shops, and people are nothing like anything you've experienced.
What is your favorite book or movie?
My go to movie to put on while candle-making/living/hanging out: 'Stranger Than Fiction.' Book: currently re-reading ‘The Bell Jar’ by Sylvia Plath (for like the 5th time) :)
What is your best advice for current Badin students?
Mr. Mignery's lessons will always haunt you, just listen and accept it. Read and learn, it'll help you make conversation and connect with cool people from all over the world (but also make college WAY EASIER FOR YOU I PROMISE!!!!!!). Don't forget to meditate: even listening to music and daydreaming positive thoughts for 15 minutes at a time is "meditation."
What if you had $1 million what would you do with it?
Build a free clinic for low-income patients.
What is your best memory as a Badin student?
So many, I just don't know which to pick... I would have to say spirit weeks- we just... went wild. Ultimately, I think it was the clothing options that sent us all into a frenzy.
Who was your favorite faculty/staff member?
You can't have this question, lol, it's not fair! I have so many incredible mentors (yes, to this day) that are my former teachers from Badin that I can't even decide.
If you could have lunch with anyone living or dead, who would it be?
Barack Obama: I find him fascinating and would love to ask him his favorite scents, hahahaha :)
Was there a particular faith-related event that impacted your life?
Kairos is so cool because it’s the most beautiful “send-off” possible for teens. You created a safe space where “Gods Time” is what you make it to be (Your room, with friends, alone, cooking dinner, LIGHTING CANDLES, meditation, etc). I talk about it a lot to people here, it’s truly an important staple when learning to accept people before college.
Thinking of yourself, what are you most proud of?
I'm most proud of making it through Lyme Disease treatment - it's still on-going at the moment, but I've been actively getting better for 8 years and I'm so excited to LIVE!
Who is your hero and why?
Can I answer my mom again? She's a total bad-ass! Single mom of 3 successful women. (Editor’s note – Special thanks to Mrs. Ellen Baden, mother of Erica (Krekeler) ’04, Tricia ‘06 and Nicole ’10), who sent cookies to every Kairos retreat for ten years, even after her daughters had graduated!)
What is one thing you’ve learned while at Badin that you still use and value today?
Following through on things is the key to success.
Is there anything in particular that you’d like to share with us?
